Organic White Wine - Swan Valley - Western Australia

Organic White Wines

White Wines

Wine Name:
Fleur de Madeleine NV

Wine Description:

An 'Old Label' (we changed our name in 2009) very dry Flor Fino sherry, made from Madeleine grapes, this wine is fully bodied dry wine style, more akin to the Swan Valley than Spain.

This wine lived in an ullaged cask, topped up every year with fresh Madeleine wine to keep the flor yeast alive.

Only 100 bottles are made per year. 375mL Alc 15%. Drink now!

Food: Try this with a soup or pistachio pide with peppered olive oil.

(GXY) Notes from a GenXY wine reviewer

Drink: now

(GXY) Tasting: April 2010, bone dry fino-style sherry made from the Madeleine grape, the ullaged cask is topped up each year to keep the flor yeast alive, some sweet orange notes on the nose with nutty rancio and well developed briny flor, the 15% alcohol is well integrated, only 100 bottles of this well made aperitif are made each year, one less after my purchase (****1/2)

Wine Name:

Chardonnay 2008

Wine Description:

This Chardonnay is the second vintage from our Organic Vineyard. A golden colour, big rich and complex.

Comments: This is a bit out there but I do like the yeast lees influence which produces a smoky flinty mineral character. Plenty of tropical fruit flavours here.

Cellar potential – Drink now up to 2012 years.

Food - anything you choose. Its a foodies wine. Also available at Rottnest Island Store and Passion Foods in South Melbourne.

Wine Name:

Grape Pickers Reserve 2009 - Chenin Blanc

Wine Description:

This is made from our dry-grown Chenin Blanc and is a full flavoured wine.

The Grape Picker’s Reserve is a full-bodied Chenin Blanc from our non–irrigated vineyard. The wine is dry because of its natural wine making methods - the ferment is not stopped by means of refrigeration, so little residual sugar remains. The rich colour is a result of the wine having been left on its skins for a short time (which extracts not only more character and flavour but also colour from high quality fruit). The wine was matured in oak for several months before bottling and this adds some nice smoky savoury influence as well. Good drinking now with further bottle development until 2016.

Comments: Hand picked Chenin Blanc with a touch of Muscadelle.

Golden Colour. Aromas of ripe pineapple and stone fruit. A rich, sweet, rounded palate with fresh acidity holding the developed fruit together. Appealing honeyed texture intertwined with subtle, caramel oak toast. Satisfying drink now proposition, and also the long term.

Food - with a few nibblies on a summer day or with dinner.

Also available at Rottnest Island Store
