Organic Sweet Wine Names

There are some pretty strange names when it comes to sweet organic wine and sweet dessert wine names. Other people call these "sticky wines", sweet red wine,  "sweet wines" or sweet dessert wines, port or sherry. Whether the dessert wine port is fortified with brandy spirit or naturally sweet wine, names other than sherry or port wine are being used in Australia. The name tokay wine, sherry wine or port wine is not allowed under Australian labelling rules.

What is organic sweet wine?

Organic sweet wines have residual sugar. For our organic red and white wines, the fermentation process continues until all the grape sugar has been converted by the yeast to alcohol and no sugar remains. If there is sugar remaining, winemakers call this residual sugar. However, most commercial white wines have about 5 grammes of sugar added to their wines. An organic sweet wine may have grape juice added or the sweet organic wine may be fortified with a neutral brandy spirit to retain the remaining sugar from the arrested fermentation.

Sweetest Red Wines

When it comes to the sweetest red wines, you might want to explore options like Port wine, Late Harvest Shiraz, or a well-crafted Ruby Cabernet. These varieties tend to have a higher residual sugar content, providing a delightful sweetness to the palate. Additionally, some dessert wines, such as Tawny Port or a liqueur shiraz, can offer a harmonious balance of sweetness and complexity. Remember to consider personal preferences and specific vintages for the optimal experience. If you are after the best sweet red wine in Australiayou can not go wrong. Cheers!
